Last Chance and Last Push to Get Therapy Cap Repealed

Feb 2, 2018

Older adults will be forced to pay out of pocket for medically necessary therapy services because Congress did not act to fix the Medicare therapy cap last month.  As you are aware, Congress has already crafted a bipartisan, bicameral agreement to permanently repeal the hard cap on Medicare therapy services. The next opportunity to fix the therapy cap is the spending bill to keep the government open that must be approved by February 8, 2018.  This could be our last opportunity until March to get this done.

Now is the time for you to act on behalf of our patients and our profession! Take 90 seconds to call, email, and/or tweet your legislators now, and tell them to pass legislation by February 8 to permanently repeal the hard therapy cap. As each day passes more Medicare beneficiaries are being impacted by the hard Medicare therapy cap.

Thousands of you have acted on this before, but we need your support one more time. Do it now! APTA members: click here to email your Members of Congress, use the numbers below to call your legislators, and/or tweet your legislators from here.

Nonmembers and patients can use the Patient Action Center to email or call their Members of Congress as well.

Your legislators are:

Senator Richard Durbin: (202) 224-2152

Senator Tammy Duckworth: (202) 224-2854

Congressman Peter Roskam: (202) 225-4561

 Phone script:

“Hello, my name is ______. I am a constituent and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. I am calling to tell Rep/Sen __________ to pass legislation to permanently repeal the hard Medicare therapy cap by February 8. The hard cap on therapy services went into effect on January 1, and every day the hard cap is in place many Medicare beneficiaries go without receiving necessary therapy services. As my representative/senator, tell your party leadership to repeal the hard Medicare therapy cap by February 8. Thank you.”
