Award Winning Arts-Based Psychotherapy Center Offers Membership for Mental Health Access
Downers Grove Arts-Based Psychotherapy Center Innovating Mental Health Access for Families!
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness, with suicide
being the 3rd leading cause of death for youth in America. This does not include life transitions such as divorce,
miscarriage, or loss of a loved one. With such staggering numbers, and decreasing access to mental health
services due to insurance disparities, one business in Downers Grove, IL has made it its mission to provide
mental health access through a membership model that incorporates the arts into its services.
The Artful Wellness membership includes unlimited support programs for children, teens and adults. “Instead of
struggling with confusing insurance coverage, or large deductibles, clients can pay a drop in fee to attend one
program, or a monthly fee to attend them all,” shares Marshall. Members have direct access and support from
Licensed Clinicians and Certified Creative Arts Therapists.
The Center for Creative Arts Therapy and its Founder & CEO, Azizi Marshall, have won multiple awards through
the American Red Cross, North American Drama Therapy Association, WomensNet, the Illinois Theatre
Association, and has been featured on CNN for healing communities through the arts.
“I wish I knew of this place sooner. My teen has suffered with depression since the age of 9. We have been in
and out of hospitals and doctors offices for most of her life. When we found the Center it was like she became a
different person. She finally felt like she could be herself, and the arts had an important role in that change,”
shares the mom of a past client.
Programs such as Arts Playschool – a social and emotional learning curriculum for preschool aged children,
Make. – an after school teen arts program next to Herrick and Downers Grove North High School, Parent Support
groups, Art Journaling, Drum Circles, Teen Art Therapy groups, Artful Meditation, Women Empowerment groups
and Improv for First Responders, can all be found at the Center for Creative Arts Therapy. “There’s something for
everyone here,” shares Marshall.
“Each program is unique, and supports the individual through their own emotional wellness journey,” states Jen
Phillips, Executive Administrator for the Center for Creative Arts Therapy.
“The Artful Wellness membership offers an alternative to mental health access,” says Marshall. “We are so
excited to provide this opportunity for families in the western suburbs.”
The Center for Creative Arts Therapy will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 16th from 6:00PM-
