As a proud Kankakee native, I made history by becoming the first African American and only the second woman elected to serve at the helm of the city as mayor.
When I was a young girl, I was being harmed by someone who used the threat of me using my voice against me to keep me in a state of fear and compliance. From that experience I learned two things: our voices have power and when we use our voices, we can influence or even stop bad things from happening.
Since, I have been advocating for women’s issues and supporting women in leadership. That’s the driving force behind my new venture, Catalyst Coaching & Transformation.
In my career, I had the privilege of working for two U.S. Congress members, serving as an Addictions Counselor, and Village Manager for a municipality until I unofficially launched Catalyst Coaching & Transformation last November.
Throughout my career, I’ve been an unofficial coach for women, youth, graduates landing their first career role, and creating opportunities for college students to gain real-life work experiences and skills through field placements and internships. I’ve dedicated my life to empowering others and I am especially proud that during my time as Mayor, I elevated women to roles they had not occupied before, proving that sound, impactful leadership should encompass the lived experiences of women.
Since joining Chamber630 earlier this year, I’ve connected with a community of women entrepreneurs. I have participated in the monthly Women In Business (WIB) networking events, attended a legislative luncheon, and plan to host an event during November. I am committed to creating an ecosystem of women business owners that allows us to serve and support one another.
I’m excited to offer a multitude of services. Also, I write a weekly newsletter and will be facilitating a free Catalyst Coaching Cafe Webinar series which begins during October.
