Midwestern University Proposed Veterinary College Earns Provisional AAVMC Membership

DOWNERS GROVE, Illinois (December 6, 2024) – Midwestern University is pleased to announce that the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) has granted provisional membership to the University’s proposed College of Veterinary Medicine–Illinois. This milestone reflects the University’s commitment to advancing veterinary education. Midwestern University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in Glendale, Arizona, is already an AAVMC member, and the University is in the process of developing a veterinary medicine program for its Downers Grove Campus.

“This is an important step for the proposed College. Joining the AAVMC as a provisional member reflects our commitment to educating future veterinarians, serving our community, and addressing the critical needs of animal health,” said Coretta Cosby Patterson, D.V.M., DACVIM-SA, Dean of the proposed College of Veterinary Medicine–Illinois.

The AAVMC represents veterinary medical colleges and schools worldwide, working to support and advance excellence in veterinary education, research, and service to improve the health of animals, humans, and the environment. The AAVMC’s provisional membership status reflects confidence in Midwestern University’s plans to contribute meaningfully to veterinary education. Pending accreditation, the new College could welcome its first class as early as fall 2027.
